Will METER accept my data?
- Cross-sectional data: one row per respondent, one column per item.
- Binary or ordinal questionnaire/assessment responses (2–7 categories).
- You supply the scale or factor structure — METER never discovers one (and at most five factors).
- Operational limits: at most five supplied factors, and multidimensional scoring requires fully observed responses.
- Synthetic evaluation coverage: roughly 200–2,000 respondents and 8–20 items per scale (known-truth simulations; not real-data evidence).
- Real-data transfer evidence currently begins at about 5,533 respondents and 8 items; smaller real designs run, but are flagged as outside the evidence portfolio.
- No comparison of scores across separate runs — scores are conditional on the submitted sample.
- De-identified data only — no names, e-mails, free text or other direct identifiers.

- Use one row per respondent.
- Extra columns such as IDs, demographics and timestamps are fine. You choose the item columns yourself.
- Responses may use integer category codes or text categories (e.g. Never … Always): text sets are converted to codes after you confirm their order during Define. Integer codes such as 0–4 or 1–5.
- Blank cells are treated as unobserved. Other missing-value codes are confirmed during instrument setup.
- SPSS and Stata metadata are shown for confirmation rather than applied silently.
- Stata extended missing values (.a–.z) are treated as missing, never as response categories.
- Reverse-keyed items must be recoded before upload. METER does not infer item meaning or scoring direction.
